Broad Box Enlosure

1997 Edge Water Center Console displays a custom 'broad box' 4 sided enclosure
Challenging as it can be, airflow is always considered in designing marine canvas
The above boat was purchased new from a local dealer without any canvas other than the factory installed T-top. It was almost immediately brought to my dock for this broad box enclosure. The purpose of this type of enclosure is to allow more protected space in the helm area than a standard box enclosure can provide. There are eight sections that give many combinations of protection and convenience. Two doors in the front and two doors in the stern can be individually rolled up for easy access to the rest of the boat. Many times you might experience wind and spray coming from one side of the boat. In this case you close the doors on that side leaving the other side open. This is the most challenging type of enclosure to design and build due to esthetic and airflow considerations. To overcome these difficult concerns, I angled the front curtain track that attaches the enclosure to the T-top. This allows wind to roll off to the sides of the boat giving better performance and mileage to the boat and more durability to the enclosure. An added 'side effect' of angling the sides of the front is that it widens the access around the boat when those curtains are rolled up. History of this boat... This is a 1997, Edge Water approximately 23 feet long. It was ordered with no canvas other than the factory installed T-top. After giving the owner a variety of options, he decided that a standard box enclosure wouldn't provide enough protected space for him and his fishing buddies and ordered this style. It was constructed with heavy optical clear vinyl and Sunbrella (R) fabric. Each section can roll up or be individually removed. Extra snaps were installed so the straps don't rub on the glass which would cause scratching. On the large sections, adjustable strap fasteners were used to attach curtains to the boat. This makes it easier to set up the canvas in hi winds or colder temperatures.
