The
picture on the left show a fly-bridge enclosure made by an unknown canvas
shop. Although not the worst enclosure I have ever seen, it does show
certain elements sloppy workmanship and poor design. The first thing I see
when I look at the 'before' picture is the use of light weight windows which
show wrinkles. Under closer examination, I see that the frame was mounted
to the side grab rails on plastic mounts (not visible in photo). Straps
held this top on both fore and aft causing a potentially dangerous situation.
The
picture on the right shows a 'champion' job. We started with a .065 wall
stainless steel frame with forward standing rods and sway rods to prevent
sideward sway. The top has zippers in the pockets so it can be easily
removed from the frame. Heavy .030 optical clear vinyl windows were
installed all around provide a transparent barrier from the elements. When
not wanted, the top conveniently folds forward and stows in a neat little
boot. With little care and common sense, this canvas enclosure will be
around for at least ten (10) years.
